TART Transformation 2.0 will reconstruct a segment of the eastern portion of the Traverse Area Recreation Trail to the north and south of Holiday Road.

This section of trail is consistently susceptible to stormwater run-off and sinking asphalt due to its proximity to wetland areas on the eastern side of the trail. Tree roots are also splitting through the trail, creating more obstacles for trail users. TART Transformation 2.0 will stabilize the soil below the trail, redirect stormwater run-off to avoid the trail, and repave the asphalt to ensure a more enjoyable trail user experience. Making these trail improvements will facilitate safer trail journeys for all.

We did it – thank you to everyone who helped us reach our fundraising goal!

TART Transformation 2.0 Construction Updates and Detour Information

As of July 8th, 2024, construction started on TART Transformation 2.0! With this excellent news of progress, this section is closed. We established a detour to avoid interrupting construction. Please use caution when using the detour.

As of July 8th, 2024, construction started on TART Transformation 2.0! With this excellent news of progress, this section is closed. We encourage users to avoid this area and instead begin their journey at 3 Mile, using the Grand Traverse Metro Fire Department Parking lot as a starting point. If you are looking to ride on the north side of the closure, park at TART East by Bates and M-72 or in the far west parking lot of the Meijer in Acme.

If you need to access this area, there is a way through but it is not a trail so please use caution.

The route, shown on the map below in mustard yellow with neon green dots, indicates the route trail users are encouraged to utilize. If trail users are westbound, head into the rear parking lot of Woodland Sweet and Eats, continue behind the Burger King, and safely cross over Holiday Road. Stay on the south side of the Holiday Road sidewalk until it becomes the US-31 sidewalk. Utilize this sidewalk detour until reaching Four Mile Road, where trail users can resume their journey on the TART Trail. This is not a bike facility so please remember to walk your bike on the sidewalks to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you. Please be aware of active traffic in parking lots as well.

We anticipate this project will last only a few weeks, resulting in a greatly improved and safer trail.
