Project Summary
The Birch Point Trailhead on the Leelanau Trail represents the next step in bringing TART Trails’ vision to life. Once an old hop farm, the 5.7-acre property in Elmwood Township is being transformed into both a working hub and a community gathering space. This new trailhead will serve as a maintenance facility to support the ongoing efforts of TART’s volunteers and trail crews while also offering a welcoming destination for trail users. With amenities designed for comfort, connection, and creativity, Birch Point Trailhead will embody the spirit of the Leelanau Trail as more than a path—it’s a park, a place of belonging, and inspiration.
Objectives
- Develop an amenity-rich trailhead with parking, restrooms, seating, and public art.
- Establish a dedicated maintenance hub to support volunteer operations and long-term trail care.
- Create a welcoming space where families, neighbors, and visitors can connect and enjoy the outdoors.
- Explore additional opportunities for the site to serve as a community and trail stewardship hub.
