Here at TART Trails, we advocate for creating and maintaining non-motorized and climate-resilient infrastructure that addresses the need for greater multi-modal mobility across the region and greater access to the resources and amenities that our communities need.
Mobility in this context refers to the ease of movement or the ability to travel across a network
Accessibility in this context refers to how easily people can reach desired destinations or services, taking into account factors like travel time, cost, and the availability of different transportation options
TART Trails’ mobility and accessibility advocacy work comes in the form of:
- consistent meetings and communications with our local and state representatives sharing our priorities and our opportunities to create more connected communities
- visits to the Michigan State Capitol for National Bike Advocacy Day and other lobbying days with Safe Routes to School, the Northwestern Michigan Community Development Coalition, and more to clearly communicate our appetite for progress
- active participation in the Grand Traverse Safe Streets Alliance
A new Grand Traverse Safe Streets Alliance has been formed to promote safer streets for pedestrians and cyclists in the region. The alliance includes TART Trails, the Cherry Capital Cycling Club, Norte, Groundworks, the Disability Network of Northern Michigan, the Traverse City Track Club, the Citizen’s Climate Lobby, and the League of Michigan Bicyclists. The alliance aims to promote the development of safe and effective non-motorized transportation and pedestrian corridors in Traverse City and adjacent counties.

The goal of our coalition is to continue to improve the non-motorized trails that currently exist and to add more miles of ski, bike, and hiking trails in the woods when possible.
