Canceled: Rainbow Run

June 22 @ 8:00 am 12:00 pm

Unfortunately, Mother Nature did not get the message that we were planning to have an outdoor Rainbow Run party tomorrow. As such, TART Trails and Up North Pride representatives have made the difficult decision to cancel the 2024 Rainbow Run due to inclement weather.
This decision was made with the safety and well-being of all participants, volunteers, and staff in mind. Despite our best efforts to monitor the weather and make necessary adjustments, the current conditions pose too great a risk to proceed with the event safely.
Per the National Weather Service, there is a hazardous weather outlook for Saturday, June 22, 2024 under the following conditions:
Heavy rainfall is expected across parts of northern Michigan Saturday into Saturday night. Some areas of the lower peninsula may see over 2 inches of rain by Sunday morning.
Isolated severe storms will be possible Saturday into Saturday night. Damaging winds and a tornado or two will be the primary hazards with any strong storms.
We understand the disappointment and inconvenience this may cause, especially after your dedication and preparation. BUT Pride is not canceled! Everyone is always welcomed and celebrated on the TART Trails network and Up North Pride has an incredible line up during Pride Week (September 25-29).
Packet pick up is still on for tonight at Fleet Feet from 4:00 to 7:00 pm. Come get your t-shirt, color powder, and stick around for lots of fun at Fleet Feet. There will be a raffle and an opportunity to create your own Rainbow Run swag using their custom heat press!
As a reminder, your registration fee is non-refundable, but will be considered a tax-deductible donation to TART Trails and Up North Pride. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. If you have any immediate questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Original Event Message:

TART Trails & Up North Pride are pleased to present the Rainbow Run, a color fun run and fundraiser around the Boardman Lake Loop Trail. To celebrate the trail systems and the Northern Michigan 2SLGBTQ+ Community during Pride Month, the event, on June 22, 2024, will invite the community to join together at Hull Park to enjoy music and refreshments before and after the run.

The route will take participants counterclockwise around the 4-mile Boardman Lake Loop Trail. There will be five distinct and separated stations along the route for participants to receive their colors. We will be using a powder made of colored cornstarch that will be human, fish, and environment-friendly and will wash out after a rain to have no long-lasting effects on the park or City infrastructure. The colors of the powders are bright and vibrant, and each station has a unique color theme. At one station, runners may be covered in bright pink powder, while at another, they may be hit with a cloud of orange powder. As participants make their way through each station, they are transformed into walking, running works of art. All participants who register by May 31st will receive a branded white t-shirt.

We will gather at Hull Park for music, refreshments, and community activities like lawn games after the event. All of the events at Hull Park will be open to the public. The trail will stay open for public use so please be kind to other trail users.

Waves
Participants will identify themselves as runners or walkers at check in and will be assigned a wave. There will be 8 waves that start 5 minutes apart. Each wave will be limited to 50 participants. There will be designated waiting areas for each wave.

This is done so people will generally start and run/walk most of the event near people of their own abilities and speeds. This will also prevent participants from waiting in line to receive their color spray at each color station along the route.
