Eagletown, Dedicated to the Late Catherine Baldwin and George Yannott Sr. by Rik Yannott/NoonDay depicts important aspects and traditions from his Anishinaabek heritage. Two prominent Migizi, eagles, are framing the mural. The work highlights the natural surroundings of our region, featuring Leelanau County and northern Michigan, the view of west Grand Traverse Bay from Elder’s Park in Peshawbestown, and more.

About the Artist

Richard “Rik” Yannott, Knakwageshik “NoonDay,” Mashikii Ododem Turtle Clan of the Odawa Nations, is a contemporary traditional artist. He has travelled from coast to coast singing and presenting my craft as well as representing the Odawa Nation. His first professional project was the Grand Opening Poster for the Leelanau Sands Casino in 1991, which he completed while attending the Career Tech Center in Traverse City. He grew his skills in arts, design, and storytelling working in the Communications Department for the Grand Traverse Band.

Over the years, he has produced works that have made it to 4 different countries, from carvings of stone and wood, regalia, bustles, drums, logo & design, and paintings.
