Smart Commute
TART Trails’ Smart Commute is a year-round effort that develops, encourages, educates and promotes year-round active transportation throughout the Grand Traverse region.
About TART Trails’ Smart Commute Program:
TART Trails Smart Commute is a year-round program promoting, educating and developing active transportation in and around Traverse City. Smart Commute Week is an annual week-long celebration of smart commuting that takes place the first full week in June.
Smart Commute Week is made possible by sponsors that help coordinate and host events encouraging, educating and celebrating people choosing to smart commute throughout the region. Improving opportunities for more people to smart commute is important because it creates a more attractive, active and livable community. Having a place that is conducive for people to get around without their individual cars improves the environmental, social and economic sustainability of the region. Smart Commute is based in Traverse City but through ride sharing, public transit, regional trail systems and smart lots it involves the entire northwest region of the Lower Peninsula. In addition, TART’s Smart Commute Week partners and purposefully coincides with Smart Commute Week in Petoskey and Harbor Springs to strengthen statewide efforts.
