Vasa Snowshoe Hike
January 11, 2015 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm
As a follow-up to Saturday’s, January 10th Winter Trails Day snowshoe hikes, Jim Heffner will lead a Vasa Snowshoe Hike on Sunday, January 11th @ 1:00 PM. The meeting place will be the Vasa Warming Building at the main Vasa Trailhead off Bartlett Road in Acme. The hike will be up through the pristine, winter wonderland of the Acme Creek Valley with many of the areas inaccessible except during winter months.
The hike is kid and dog friendly, as long as they socialize well. There will be three trail length options: 1.5 miles, 2.3 miles, and 2.6 miles. There is the potential to see spawning salmon, steelhead, ruffed grouse, deer, barred owls, etc. The hike will meander up the creek valley through a combination of hemlock/cedar swamp and forested uplands to the headwaters – a very steep hillside where the springs come out of the hillside to form the West Branch of Acme Creek. Note:No equipment will be provided. Dress in layers. The spring fed creek valley stays warmer and is sheltered from the wind.
