New! Corporate Grooming Supporter program.
TART Trails’ winter grooming program continues to be the best in the state. Our dedicated grooming team tirelessly maintains the Vasa Pathway and Leelanau Trail; providing you with the ultimate cross-country skiing conditions on both sides of the bay. The Vasa Pathway offers 3k, 5k, 10k & 25k trail loops with rolling hills, while the flat and forgiving Leelanau Trail is groomed from the Cherry Bend trailhead to 4th St. just south of Suttons Bay. We also set funds aside in a Snowy Day Fund for future equipment purchases.
Winter Fat Bikes - The Vasa Pathway is groomed for classic and skate-skiing. Fat Bikes are welcome to use the 3K Meadows Loop, but encouraged to stay off the 5K, 10K and 25K loops as these are groomed to provide pristine ski conditions. There are several other options for our winter Fat Bike friends to enjoy the trails in the winter. We encourage you to-
- Ride at the Vasa Single-track off Supply Road.
- Start at Timber Ridge Resort and follow their marked trail to the Vasa Single-track.
- Ride the Leelanau Trail – new for the 2012-2013 season we will be allowing fat bikes on the sections of the Leelanau Trail that are groomed for skiing.
The Grooming Crew includes Jim Dombrowski, Glen Rauth, Roger Raehl, Gary Joslin, Doug Scofield, Paul Tata, Bill Heitman, Nick Wierzba and Glenn Martin. They have a variety of equipment available to help create an excellent skiing surface in a variety of conditions, including an LMC Snowcat and snowmobiles with YTS Ginzu Groomers.
